There are a large number of configuration options for the gradebooks available form the Administration Menu
These settings are made at the Course level. For a discussion of the difference between courses and sections see a previous topic.

You can enable either or both gradebooks for any course. If you enable both gradebooks then you have a choice about how the gradebooks average together.
In practice the first option (Letter Grade Percentage Only) is generally used . This is a hybrid report card system where the letter grade is calculated in the letter-grade gradebook and then standards are only entered once at the end of the trimester or quarter. Below is an example of a hybrid report card.
