SchoolWise supports the Symbol LS2208 USB hand (or mounted) scanner. Below are the instructions for programming or re-programming the scanner. If you just received your scanner, or it is not working as expected please follow these programming steps below to resolve any issues.

Please print out the following pages: 45,109,110,113 and 186. (From the attached user manual Symbol_LS2208.pdf)

Once printed please scan the described choice below on each page in the following order with the Scanner. You should hear a "high tone beep" after each scan if you are successful in programming the scanner.

1. Section 4-3 (Page 45) - Scan (Set All Defaults)

2. Section 7-5 (Page 109) - Scan (HID Keyboard Emulation)

3. Section 7-6 (Page 110) - Scan (North American Standard USB Keyboard)

4. Section 7-9 (Page 113) - Scan (No Delay)

5. Section 12-28 (Page 186) - Scan (Enable Code 39 Full ASCII)

Once you have completed the scanner programming, please open Notepad and then try to test scan a student bar code. You can print the student bar codes from the Barcode Rosters for One Week report in SchoolWise. You should see the following display in notepad once you scan the student barcode:

~A1234

If this format above is what you see, then the scanner had been programmed correctly and is not ready to use in SchoolWise. Keep in mind that SchoolWise has to be open and the Meal Scanner form active for the scanner to work correctly.
